FIGHTER  BIOGRAPHY

Aljamain Sterling (born July 31, 1989) is an American mixed martial artist. A professional MMA competitor since 2011, Sterling made a name for himself competing in Cage Fury Fighting Championships, where he won and defended the Bantamweight title. He is signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), fighting in its Bantamweight division.

I grew up in Roosevelt, NY, before moving to Uniondale, NY, in the 6th grade. Being in love with the game of Basketball, I tested my skills for the Uniondale JV Basketball team, but fell short of making the cut. I was steered towards wrestling, fell in love with the grind, and decided to continue at the collegiate level, where I wrestled D3. I transferred from SUNY Morrisville, to SUNY Cortland, where I became a 2x All-American wrestler at 133 lbs and 141 lbs. During my time in Cortland, I had a few amateur fights and realized the competitive fire was still burning strong, and decided to go pro in 2011. While still attending school as a full-time student, I juggled wrestling, coaching, training, and earned my undergrad in Physical Education.

Still on the quest of becoming a world champion, I moved back home, where I train with the Serra-Longo fight team, substitute teach, and coach the Uniondale Wrestling team. Many times I've wanted to quit both my academics and sport, while I was in college. Life has it's ways to bring you down and making you want to quit, but it's up to us to preservere and stay the course! I'm chasing a dream, to make into a reality. One day at a time and I will get there.
